Come join us as we go to the incredibly beautiful country of Iceland ! We will spend one week traveling around with Red Bull rider Aaron Chase and mountain biking near glaciers, volcanoes, hot springs and geysers. We also spend the first and last night of the trip in the quaint port city of Reykjavik.
Do you want to come to Iceland but not that into mountain biking, or perhaps you want to bike but your friend or significant other would rather hike and sight see?
With the Global Epix unique “Split Trip” platform, you can go to Iceland on the same dates and same itinerary, except that by day you will be sightseeing and hiking instead of mountain biking. In the early evening, after the playing is done, you will then regroup with your friend or significant other in the hotel/campsite for dinner and relaxation time. Email us for details!
Iceland is unlike any place I’ve ever ridden, its just perfect to have fun on the bike and the scenery is literally unbelievable! It’s so cool how it never gets dark and the speed of the riding is always surprising. Full on bucket list bike trip.
Today marks the first day of the trip, so you should plan to try to arrive to Reykjavik one day earlier (depending entirely upon your actual arrival time into Reykjavik). Today we ease into the trip, to allow for those who may have late flights or jet lag. We have found the best way to do that is to base in our hotel today and then explore this beautiful city on our bikes.
Reykjavik is a charming city of about 130,000 residents and a beautiful location on the bay and is also the northernmost capital of any country in the world.
It makes a wonderful place to fine tune the bike and shake off the jet lag, so we will ride around town with our guide throughout the day, returning to the hotel to pick up newly arrived riders or dropping off those ready for a rest.
Time to go explore Iceland! The areas outside of the cities are very remote and beautiful, and the whole country is packed with volcanoes, waterfalls, glaciers, and hotsprings.
Today the riding begins in earnest as we head out of the city. We are going to the Landmannalaugar region of Iceland, also the leaping off spot for the world famous Laugavegur trek, but it also happens to be an extremely fun mountain bike route! We will ride a combination of local trails today, first in the super sweet geothermal fields of Reykjadalur, and then on to Landmannalaugar, where we will stay in the huts and ride more singletrack in the area. It doesn’t get dark here until 2am!
Today is perhaps our favorite of the whole trip, a stunningtwenty five kilometer singletrack ride through a kaleidescope of Icelandic geography and scenery to an idyllic lake called Alftavatn. Along the way we will have to do some hike-a-bike over some small glacier tongues, as well as a few steep climbs we may have to push the bikes up.
It will all be worth it, though, as this ride truly exemplifies the stunning scenery of Iceland
We will be riding more singletrack today, this time from Alftavatn to our hut at Emstrur. More Icelandic singletrack, a little lower altitude and greener with other-worldly landscapes. If you are wondering “what is the riding like in Iceland” the answer is you will spend most of your time on rolling singletrack, going much faster than you would expect from looking at just a topo map. Even while riding on or next to glaciers, the temperature averages around 60+ degrees, perfect for mountain biking.
Today we ride from Emstrur to Thorsmork.
Today is the longest and toughest day; we ride from Thorsmork to Skogar. 14 miles. 3300 feet elevation gain. Hike & bike. Amazing scenery like all the other days. Sleeping in Reykjavik hotel.
Today marks the end of the tour, after breakfast those who have an early morning flight will say their goodbyes and head to the airport, Those with the extra time are invited to join us on a morning mountain biking shredfest through the streets of Reykjavik.
